    Stories of Change

    Intern Speaks

Working as an intern at AIKYA from May-June, 2019, I realised the importance of the values of compassion and austerity in a person's life. It taught me that the satisfaction received from helping out someone in need transcends other forms of happiness. It taught me the quality of sacrificing the little things in life for the greater good, and realizing the value of the smile it may bring on someone's face.

In our time at AIKYA, we worked on the planning and implementation of various projects like the Zero Plate Waste Program, the Global Citizenship Fellowship Programme, among others. The experience has gone a long way in changing me as a person and realising the value of the little actions that we can take in our day to day life to make someone's day better.

It was truly an enlightening experience to have worked with AIKYA for this duration, and I would encourage everyone to go through this experience as it really changes one's outlook towards life in general.

    What our volunteer says

As a volunteer at AIKYA, I acted as a part of the team conducting the World Environment Day 2018 celebrations wherein 5000 saplings were distributed in 15 prime locations of Bengaluru with the help of over 300 volunteers. It helped me develop the quality of teamwork, while also developing the consciousness towards the environment and to our responsibility towards the continually deteriorating state of the environment, particularly in the city of Bengaluru.

The initiative opened my eyes towards the side of the picture I've long been blind to.
Therefore, volunteering with AIKYA has been a valuable experience, which has not only helped me work with a team better, but also helped me develop the feeling of giving back to the environment in return for what we keep taking from it. It was truly a wonderful and an eye-opening experience to work with AIKYA

    Beneficiary Speaks

I am a student of the Government High School, IISc, where AIKYA conducts its Education Project. Volunteers from AIKYA visit us every week to teach us various subjects like English, Mathematics, and General Knowledge. Being a part of this program has instilled a lot of confidence in the students of this school, who are now no longer intimidated by social interactions as they used to be before this project was initiated.

This project has helped us all grow together and made us realise the importance of education which we so conveniently used to neglect before this program helped us realise and learn so much more than we thought there was to education.

    OUR INITIATIVES

" Take a Step ahead for the better future. "

    Teaching Program

    Education Support

The Education Support (EdSupport) programme in our NGO aims to provide quality education to the children in a time-bound manner. Every child needs to be educated and they have got the right to education (RTE) and not every child is fortunate enough. So, with the help of our School-Tuitions and Slum-tuitions, we ensure that every child gets timely education irrespective of the circumstance they live in. Our NGO understands the importance of humanity.

    Slum Tuitions

According to the 2011-Census data, every eighth urban child in India lives in slums. The children live in deplorable conditions and do not have proper access to education. AIKYA volunteers take the lead and visit the slums weekly and teach the children about best practices on health, hygiene, moral and value-based education and train these children before they could be enrolled in the schools.

    School Tuitions

AIKYA strives to bring a change by empowering the children with 21st-century skills like Computer Literacy and English language, We also train the children in subjects like Mathematics, Science, General Knowledge, Moral and Value-based Education and Personality development. The volunteers at our NGO make use of self-made Teaching/Learning Materials (TLMs), modals and interactive video-clips to help children learn while having fun and the importance of humanity.

AIKYA strives to bring a change by empowering the children with 21st-century skills like Computer Literacy and English language with the help of volunteers who act as the change-makers.

    School Initiative

    Back to School Initiative

The fourth Sustainable Development Goal as put by the United Nations speaks of providing inclusive and equitable quality education to the children and ensure that every child has access to schooling activities. As per the government data, 4.13% was the annual average dropout rate at the primary school level in the country in 2014-15. This means around 10.7 million students dropped out in 2014-15. Our NGO ensures that these children continue their education without dropping out in the midst and aligns its activities to the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals. We also provide them with the stationery, school bags, school shoes and books to poor children to encourage them and to ensure zero roadblocks in the path of getting knowledge.

    School Transformation Project

A clean and green environment helps a child best in imbibing best whatever the knowledge s/he gets. At the same time, a school with a full-fledged library, sports equipment and proper infrastructure (toilets, classrooms etc.) motivates a child to learn and also compels the other children to join the schools. At our NGO, our volunteers conduct activities like 'Government School Painting', 'kitchen gardening','establishing libraries', that rejuvenate the school infrastructure. AIKYA has witnessed several stories where the children actively attended the schools as they underwent the School Transformation Project.

    Scholarships

We believe that every child has the potential to grow and perform well and, in such circumstances, monetary aspects should not pose a roadblock for the child. Every child should haSeveral state governments and the Central government provides scores of scholarships to help children continue their education. AIKYA helps these children in availing the scholarships like National Means Cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS), National Talent Scheme (NTS), etc. We also provide the scholarships to the children which are further classified into Merit-Based Scholarship, provided to the children performing well in their streams and Need-Based Scholarship, provided to the children who cannot continue their education due to monetary constraints and are willing to study further.
